The work undertaken by a metalwork technician specialising in automatic lathe technology involves manufacturing turned parts that are accurate in both size and shape. These are required in large quantities and to a high level of accuracy, primarily for the automotive industry, but also for the engineering, appliance and plant manufacturing industries. The main areas of work for a metalwork technician are installing predominantly computer-run machinery, planning production runs, including the necessary programme conformity and quality control.
